About

Cheryl Harrison is a communications strategist in Columbus, Ohio who specializes in using social media to achieve marketing, public relations and customer service objectives. Cheryl has been actively using social media-esque sites for 10 years – MySpace (remember MySpace?!) daily updates to Geocities pages before “blogging” was a thing, etc. Hey, look, a case study. And another one! Neat.

Cheryl blogs about social media (and herself) on beingcheryl.com, which was voted one of the top three blogs in Columbus by (614) Magazine in 2011. Cheryl has been featured in CNN.com, 10tv, NBC4, The Columbus Dispatch, The Other Paper, Columbus Alive, Columbus Monthly, Columbus Underground, The Metropreneur, 614 Magazine, Digital411 and more. She has spoken at Be The Boss, the Ohio Growth Summit, WordCamp Columbus, PodCamp Ohio, AMA Marketing Research Conference, Columbus AMA Social Media SIG, Columbus Social Media Club, Ohio National Speakers Association, Ohio State University PRSSA, OSU Social Media Club and Capital University.

She is an information junkie and spends far too much time trying to keep up with her Google Reader subscriptions. She enjoys reading, writing and ‘rithmetic (not really the third one, but it seemed like a vital part of the “set.”) Cheryl’s other passions include theatre, craft beer, music and networking.

Cheryl works with TeamDynamixHE, a Higher Education-focused PPM Software company, and Woodlands Tavern, an entertainment venue in Central Ohio. She is also the editor of the popular lifestyle website Drink Up Columbus. Cheryl has previously worked for Social Business Strategies, Wilks Broadcasting, OhioHealth, Priceline.com, People To My Site and Sync Creative, in addition to some freelancing. Altogether this has given her a wide array of experience in not only social media but also public relations, marketing and event planning. (And a lot of headaches.)

Cheryl holds a B.A. in Public Relations and minors in Political Science and Journalism from Capital University.

Cheryl likes to use parenthetical asides (and write in 3rd person.)
