Anyone who knows me knows that there are few things I love more than karaoke and the tech crowd.
That’s why I’m SO excited to tell you that Amy Schmittauer and I are finally bringing TechKaraoke to Columbus! TechKaraoke™ brings the tech community(ies) together one terrible song at a time.

TechKaraoke was created as a way to bring tech communities together, not discuss anything tech-related, and rock out to some of the worst songs ever. TechKaraoke was founded by Brett Petersel and Michael Gruen. You’ve probably heard of TechKaraoke events at conferences like SXSW and BlogWorld – well, now TechKaraoke is parking in the ‘bus!
Mission Statement: First, alcohol consumption is a must. If you think you can rock the mic sober, we suggest that you think again! Next, choose the best song from the selected list of artists that will definitely get the crowd moving. Deborah (or “Debbie”) Gibson is not allowed. Ever. Finally, it is everyone’s duty to rock the mic!
Our inaugural event will take place Monday, April 18 from 6:30-10pm at Woodlands Tavern in Grandview with awesome drink specials – $2 for all 18 drafts, domestic bottles and well drinks all night long! RSVP on Facebook here. We’ll be offering up a prize for the best performance, and the winner will get to select the winner at our next round!
Not into karaoke? That’s OK! Grab a drink, meet some awesome new people and take pleasure in people like me embarrassing themselves for your amusement. (Note: That’s my friend Charlie being way too excited in the beginning of that video, which was recorded by Nate Riggs.)
Join the TechKaraoke Columbus Facebook group for all the info on upcoming events and to get connected with the TechKaraoke community.
This kickoff event would not be possible without these folks, so show ‘em all the love you’ve got:
BONUS:
Amy and I, along with our friends Elijah and Monish, roadtripped to Detroit a few weeks ago to hang out with our friends up north at THEIR TechKaraoke event. Enjoy the resulting hilarity as chronicled by Amy:
Hope to see you there! And be sure to use the hashtag #techkaraoke when you talk about us on Twitter!

Nate Riggs says:
OMG, I forgot how classic @charliecurve was in that video up in D-town … probably cause I was drunk while filming. Um. Ok, not probably. Nice work in increasing the overall debauchery score of Cbus with this, Cheryl.
