Pitch Your Blog in 140 Characters

I was looking for some new blog content to subscribe to (because the 100+ blogs I currently read is, apparently, not enough content for me to consume on a weekly basis), and I decided to put the search into the hands of the bloggers themselves. I posted this to Twitter:

A few thoughts:

  1. Only 1 person pitched a blog that wasn’t their own
  2. Only 8 of them included a link to their blog in the pitch
  3. Only 16 (+1 recommending someone else’s blog) of my 7,100 followers (who, presumably, have some reason for wanting me to pay attention to them) took the time to promote their content to me when blatantly asked to do so
  4. 2 of them discredited themselves immediately by telling me they rarely wrote/nothing to see
  5. 5 of them told me nothing at all about their content or how it relates to me
  6. 1 of them was personally directed at ME

I subscribed to 10 of the 17. Can you guess which ones? :)

This got me thinking – how would I pitch THIS blog to someone in 140 characters? After all, I post content that blends ridiculous personal anecdotes and business savvy. It’s not a quick sell. But here’s my take:

beingcheryl.com will make you laugh & teach you something. “Something” may range from social media strategy to how to fake being possessed

What’s your pitch?

Yeah, someday I will get my blog working right again and start posting again…. I guess its because I host though godaddy, is what I have been told.

  2. Cheryl says:

Hmm. I don’t know anyone who hosts from GoDaddy but I’m sorry they’re stopping you from making blog magic!

  3. LightSwitchMe says:

Whether you’re building your brand from scratch or trying to launch it to the next level, lightswitchme.com is full of helpful Bright Ideas.

  4. Cheryl says:

    Love the pitch, Mel!

  5. GroovyDoodle Photography says:

groovydoodle.net The place where enthusiasm meets photography and wedding planning.

  6. Jen @ Midwestern Modern Momma says:

Ever since I sent you my pitch, I’ve been mulling it over! (blame my former English teacher roots!) 140 characters-good challenge for any blogger to condense their essence into. It should be something we have to do often, in order to remember what we really are trying to say in the first place. Thanks for the push:).

  7. Erika Napoletano says:

Unpopular thoughts and blunt advice…delivered :)

  8. Al (aka Dr Geek) says:

My pitch? A golf-obsessed physician exploring golf performance with a medical slant. Better than it sounds – honest ;-)

  9. Bethany says:

At first I thought “Is it too late for mine?!” but then I noticed someone submitted my site! Except they didn’t talk about my content at all, haha. Here it goes:

BlahBethany.com is a great website for when you’re bored at work. Quick fixes to being bored in the form of funny videos, great celebrity gossip, internet memes, and the musings of a 22-year-old girl with too much time on her hands.
