Inauguration Day

I’ll preface this brief post by saying that I’m writing it on my cell phone, with the world’s tiniest keys, and not the world’s smartest auto-correct, so pardon my inevitable errors.

In case you missed all my Tweets, Facebook posts, and the story on NBC4, I’m in Washington D.C. for the week to be a part of the inauguration excitement. You can follow the videos and the tweet stream at http://drivingtochange.com and the photos at my Flickr page - calling the adventure Driving to Change.

Check out my interview on NBC4 here.

Anyway, it’s 1pm on inauguration day and I am living in a perpetual state of hope. I left for downtown D.C. this morning around 9 to be apart of the eager crowds awaiting President Obama to be sworn in and give his  inaugural speech, and the level of energy I was surrounded with was something I had never seen before. I also saw tremendous spirit in those who were not in the District via social media. I think today’s technology has tied us all in so much that people feel closer, to their new president and to events they themselves can’t participate in - whether or not they themselves are Obama supporters. Anyway, we ended up going to a bar to watch the actual speech because we couldn’t get close enough to anything to make freezing worthwhile. Obama’s speech left me feeling reassured about the choice I made in the first ballot I ever cast for the presidency. I look forward to seeing this country move in a new direction.

As for the other two nights I’ve spent here, which I haven’t had time to blog about:

Sunday - party at FUR
Through the miracles of social networking, Angela and I were able to acquire tickets to the IMPACT Film Fund’s “Artists Making an Impact” Party at FUR - tons of fun. We got to hang out literally right next to the stage where Ludacris and Nelly performed  - verrrrry cool.

Monday - National Day of Service
To do our part for national day of service, we went to a homeless shelter which houses a public computer lab to test some of the hundreds of donated monitors for functionality. It felt great to be able to do something good for other people that incorporated, however slightly, my technological skill set.

So there you have it. All the major highlights, none of the juicy details. Those are on twitter under the hashtag #dtc09 ;-)
