For the sake of brevity, here are my top 10 favorite things that I tweeted at the Inbound Marketing Summit - most of them are quotes from speakers, though I didn’t Tweet attribution to all of them (so if you know it let me know!)
- “The purpose of a business is to create a CUSTOMER” @twalk
- “Community is a privilege, not a property” -@chrisbrogan
- No more top down messaging & mass broadcasting, this is about bottom up strategy & listening
- People are too obsessed with the number grabbing. How about the peeps that care about you now?” - @garyvee
- Be a feeder system, not a destination site.
- If you want to get attention, you HAVE to find conflict.” -@1timstreet
- If you’re not ready to engage consistently… then you might want to wait.”
- “Definition of marketing - getting someone who has a need to know, like and trust you” -@ducttape
- Social media is something companies need to figure out themselves. They can’t outsource it to an ad or PR agency” -@bhalligan
- Social media is like double dutch. You can’t just jump in there or you’ll get tangled up. You need to watch and watch

And MY content…
And the ONLY picture I have to share with you from the conference is this one, because, while posing for it Chris Brogan remarked of my beat up, four-year-old camera: “Um, is that even digital?” Needless to say I wasn’t eager to bust it out for anyone else.
Do you have a post I should link to here? Let me know.
Also, what were YOUR key takeaways from IMS?

Rachel Levy says:
Thanks for including me in your recap! I think you were the #1 tweeter at IMS, so congrats!

I enjoyed your Tweets - I’d say you were a close second

I’m sorry, but that was funny. If it makes you feel any better, my camera’s not all that great either. And the other day I took it to Chris’ Chapman event and forgot to charge the damn thing. Ha!
In regards to the event, these two are my favorite tweets:
People are too obsessed with the number grabbing. How about the peeps that care about you now?” - @garyvee
I think too often people focus too much on the numbers and they forget their true fans. At last year’s Blogworld Expo, Darren Rowse said, focus on your community one reader at a time. I have to say, it’s very empowering when you invest in getting to know you’re readers if even one at a time.
“If you’re not ready to engage consistently… then you might want to wait.”
Consistency is definitely key! It’s very easy to lose a community and very difficult to build it back up (in my opinion). Take for example the blogger who stops blogging for 6 months. He/she has a very hard time building his community of readers/commentators back up (I can think of a few bloggers who have personally experienced this).
