i am a good idea.

25 before 25

I’ll turn 25 at the end of this year (a milestone no one cares about except maybe rental car companies) so I’ve set myself some goals to accomplish in the next 11 months before I hit the quarter century mark. Some are business, some are personal, some are silly, and all have me excited.

  • Quit my job to work for myself (completed 1/3/13)
  • Come up with an awesome name for my PR/social media business (meet speechbubble)
  • Have an article published in three new print publications (1/3)
  • Have an article published in five new blogs/web publications (3/5)
  • Eliminate my credit card debt
  • Get a passport and leave the U.S.
  • Visit five new cities (3/5 completed: Fort Collins, Orlando, Grand Rapids)
  • Revisit five favorite cities (5/5 completed: Las Vegas, New York City, Washington DC, Pittsburgh, Cleveland – OK I’m just counting Cleveland so I can cross this off my list but shhhh)
  • Lose another 25 pounds
  • Drink all of the RateBeer top 25 beers (11/25: Founders KBS, Bells Hopslam, Three Floyds Dark Lord, Russian River Pliny the Elder, Founders Breakfast Stout, Goose Island Bourbon County Stout, Three Floyds Dreadnaught Imperial IPA, Firestone Walker Parabola, Stone Imperial Russian Stout, AleSmith Barrel Aged Speedway Stout, Russian River Supplication)
  • Read four new books to help my business (2/4: The Now Revolution, Creative Inc)
  • Read eight new fun books for S’s and G’s (6/8: A Game of Thrones, Bossypants, Dune, Everything’s Perfect When You’re A Liar, Hyperbole and a Half, The Lions of Al-Rassan)
  • Brew my first batch of beer
  • Speak (well, ideally) at three conferences/seminars (3/3: Ohio Growth Summit, World Beer Festival Cleveland, Salt Mines)
  • Run my first 5k (completed 6/22/13))
  • Set up a proper home office
  • Join an improv troupe
  • Organize three successful events/parties/conferences (3/3: Drink Up anniversary party, Backyard Karaoke, 16-Bit Blogger Party)
  • Add ten new clients (13(!)/10)
  • Publish an eBook, fiction or non-fiction
  • Create a totally awesome cosplay (amended to: recycle a cosplay from last year and try again next year, ok?!)
  • Make an original tabletop game (I decided to launch a tabletop game blog instead)
  • Expand Drink Up beyond Columbus (planned)
  • See three new Broadway shows (1/3 completed: Nice Work If You Can Get It)
  • Do a stand-up set at an open mic night

My birthday is November 17. Let’s do this.

  1. I just really like the phrase “S’s and G’s.”

Also, a few of these things here were on my “30 before 30″ list (which OBVIOUSLY I have SEVERAL YEARS left to complete. Ahem.) and while they were scary, they are amazing milestones and will make you feel like a badass when you do it (helloooo, stand up!). Can’t wait to see your progress!

You’ve got another 10 years to hit your goals, no fair! ;)

It should be a fun year.

  3. One thing I might have liked to do before I turned 25 is drive across the country. That could also incorporate a number of your other items on the list. And I’m so stealing the 25 top rated beer drinking thing. The Founders Breakfast Stout is fantastic.

Make one of the cities to visit Grand Rapids, Michigan, and visit the Founders brewery. Then write about it.

I’ve been thinking the past 12 days of what I can put on my list and I came across a blog post by @CherylHarrison from Twitter. The blog is titled “25 before 25″ and is a fun list of just life in general and not your typical career only oriented lists that most people have. Check it out at […]
